April 2005

KYVU Instructor Survey on Information Literacy from KYVL
The Kentucky Virtual Library Information Literacy Workgroup is a volunteer committee of librarians and educators working to promote information literacy through the development of tools and resources. One of the freely available tools is the tutorial "How to Do Research" at http://www.kyvl.org/html/tutorial/research/

Given the exponential growth in both the number and variety of information sources, it is imperative that citizens have the skills "to locate, evaluate, and effectively use information for any given need." (ALA Presidential Committee on Information Literacy, found 8/10/04 at http://www.ala.org/ala/acrl/acrlpubs/whitepapers/presidential.htm.)

To help us evaluate the use of the tutorial, we created a survey to gather input from the instructors teaching courses via KYVU. We sent individual email invitations to the 1,081 KYVU instructors teaching academic courses for Spring 2005. Of the 1,081 invited, 57 instructors responded.
