KYVL ADA Workgroup - Meeting Minutes

Date:            Thursday, June 10th, 10:00 – 12:00 p.m.

Meeting:      KYVL ADA Workgroup Committee

Present:       Carla Cantagallo, Bryce Fields, Marcia Harley, Linnie Lee, Nancy Mollette, Jenny Tyree, Enid Wohlstein, Lesley Wolfgang-Jackson

Absent:        Blenda Fields, Sara King, Tanzi Merritt, Michael Providenti, Bobbie Beth Scoggins, Angel Smith

1 - Pass through pages.  After selecting Find Books, Articles and More, user selects one of the buttons for a native interface search and is presented with a page "You are about to leave KYVL..."

This page is necessary.  Depending on the native button selected, data is being passed to the database vendors to tell the vendor what group the user is coming from and where the search statistics should go.

Can we make the language more friendly?

2 - Most used KYVL pages.  We can look at these to help Tanzi determine the access keys for kyvl.org.

Bryce wants the URL.  Ask Dave Block at UK > Can we export logs to CSV/Excel?

3 - Edits to accessibility statement.  Somebody needs to take charge of these.  Bryce/Tanzi/Michael are the subcommittee.  Who needs to pick up the ball and do the edits?

4 - Tentative plan of attack for kyvl.org conversion:  do default and no styles.  Complete over the next month.  Waiting on IT to hear definite time.

5 - Feedback on Kids' Portal.  Any word on this?  Blenda/Diane?  [Need to send a message to the LMS listserv if that hasn't happened yet].

Move footer around and enlarge.

6 - PDF's on the KYVL site.  How many are there?  Can we do an accessibility conversion from within Acrobat?  Anybody know?  Who can take this on and do the research?

Jenny & Lesley > will check into Acro 6 accessibility.  What you need >  Tanzi will email Jenny and Lesley links to some of the pdf’s on the KYVL site.

Offer alternate formats of docs for download orig/html/pdf.

7 - ADA workshop for libraries.  Norb Ryan is very interested in this, especially from the aspect of pub libs and physical accessibility.  Can we help coordinate an all-day workshop on websites, assistive technology, physical barriers, etc.?

Possible speakers:

Norb Ryan

Steve Noble

Preston Lewis

Linnie Lee – assistive tech

Michael Providenti - websites

Barney Fleming per Carla – interactive cd of assistive tech.  Can we get a copy?

Cathy Johnson – Kentucky School for the Blind [KSB]

Jay Karns – UK Disability Services

Susan Fog

Andy Hicks – Hix Technology

8 - Lesley and usability research.  She volunteered to do this if no one did.  Think we need to pair Leslie with someone else and have actually 2 or 3 people looking into this.  I have some research but other folks need to help with this.

9 - Template.  Bryce?

10 - Browse Aloud.  Would like to purchase this for our site.  Makes the pages self-voicing.

How would Browse Aloud work with Kids’ Portal?  Self-voicing – screen readers vs. text readers.  Work very differently.

Bryce send Linnie some kids’ pages and she’ll get text help to index.
