Government Information Access Workgroup Minutes

March 28, 2001

Present: Gary Austin, Beverly Daly, Sandee McAninch, Carrie Stephenson, Charles Robb, Bill Richardson, Jackie Kinder, Eileen Haddix

We reviewed our mission and projects list from the 9/15/00 meeting to see where we are. We agreed that our primary focus will be finishing the KY Statistical Abstracts in time for the May 18 GODORT meeting.

Kentucky Statistical Abstract

May 1 is the deadline to have sites in to Jackie for inclusion.

We would like to present the Abstracts at the May 18 GODORT meeting at Boone County Public Library. Jackie will check with Miko to see if she can come that day. We will ask all of the contributors to come that day as well so that they can be recognized. A press release about the project will be released on the same day.

We have 5 new volunteers. Dee Wood is doing Elections, Kurt Metzmeir is doing Human Rights, Michael Whiteman is doing Immigration, Eileen Haddix is doing Sciences and Matt Onion is doing Industrial Outlook.

We have lost 2 volunteers. Rachel Augello and Brian Erb. Phil Yannarella has volunteered to take Rachel’s Arts and Humanities section. Sandee McAninch will take Parks and Recreation and Brian Erb’s Geography section. That leaves Rachel’s KY National Guard which might be folded into Disaster and Emergency Services. Sandee will check with Shawn Livingston to see if he would want to do it.

Now that we have lost 2 volunteers who had already done quite a bit of work on their sections, the question was raised about who gets credit for the page. We decided that until something is changed in a section that we will continue to credit Rachel and Brian. Also, we decided that there is no reason to not have volunteers from outside the state. If volunteers leave their Kentucky jobs they can still be involved in this project if they want to. Sandee will check to see if Rachel and Brian want to remain involved.

We still have a few sections that need volunteers. Gary and Carrie are going to KLA Spring Meeting and will try to recruit a few more volunteers. Jackie will send them handouts to use to attract potential volunteers.

GIA Survey

We have received a few more surveys. Jackie will send a message to the KYVL Reference Listserv to see if we can get a few more in. The deadline is April 15.

GILS

Charles Robb updated us on the GILS project. There have been some Microsoft Site Server software and Dublin Core conflicts to work through. They are working with Dept. of Natural Resources on the pilot project. KDLA is doing the training and the agencies themselves will do the tagging. The Advisory Committee hasn’t started yet.

New Member

We welcomed Eileen Haddix to the workgroup. She is replacing Matt Onion.

NEXT MEETING: May 18 at GODORT
