KYVL GIA Workgroup Committee: Minutes

Meeting: KYVL GIA Workgroup Committee

Present: Eileen Haddix, Connie Klimke, Sandee McAninch and Enid Wohlstein

Absent: Tanzi Merritt, Bill Richardson, Linda Sizemore, Barbara Whitener

We have a new list for KyStats contributors, and GIA list now includes only the work group members. GIA Workgroup members will be added to KyStats listserv to be kept informed of KyStats communications.

Sandee will send a message to KyStats list asking the following questions/reminders:

• Do they want to continue as contributor?
• Can they take some of the available topics?
• If not, could they recruit new contributors to take the available topics?
• Could they review the VRD for appropriate, non-statistical federal and state government sites on their topic?
• Remind them to check their links quarterly and let Tanzi know when changes need to be made.

The KyStats page will be revised to a format that better matches the VRD contributors list. Tanzi will do this.

KYVL staff will add a new category to the VRD for "Government"; it will contain all of the general federal and state government sites currently included in the "General Reference" category; subject-based links to federal and state government sites will stay where they are in the VRD. We will also add a link to “KyStats” within the new “Government” section to ensure that it is not overlooked.

In the VRD>General Reference>Kentucky Reference, we would like to move the Ky. Federal Depositories link to the new VRD>Government area.

Sandee will send us a link to UK’s Government Pubs webpage.

Rae offered us some pathfinders for small business users; Rae will send Enid electronic copies of these, and they will be placed as on KYVL’s home page as a new link.

We want to put together an all-day workshop on using government information (federal and state) in early November at CPE offices in Frankfort; the target audience will be teachers and librarians without gov. pubs. experience; Sandee will send a message to both GIA lists asking

for volunteers for a small planning group to pull this together.

There was no interest expressed in re-surveying KYVL member libraries about their online cataloging practices regarding government publications. Enid will still try to find the survey results from Spring 2001.
