Update on Tutorial
Possibility conference call with Paula Her deadline was June 15, 2001 - but that has slipped. Final implementation deadline is October 15, 2001
KYVU and KCTCS is going to Promethus, closer to open source (developed by George Washington) KYVU trying to break down log-in barriers - no other vendor was going to work with KYVU on removing log-in problems (as there will always be individual faculty that will be using off-systems: WebCT or another)
Continuing to have contract by Eduprise - they are going to be the backend for Blackboard. Eduprise will be converting us to Promethus.
Once new RFP will turn back to consultant for tweaking in new system.
The academic one needs to have assessment. The existing general one would not need a formal assessment, but could have quizzes.
Restructuring for March 15, and re-scripting for June 15, site design July 15, site development Sept. 15, final implementation Oct. 15.
Miko is the final source of direction for Paula.
If our primary users are KYVU people, can't we USE some real-life WebZ or other examples?
Do we want to teach the concept or teach the specific hoop for the database at hand?
We need to make sure we keep hands off
We sent email to Paula suggesting that she share the next level of substructure, and have a phone conversation June 1.
PowerCreative will be doing a portal page for the kids and doing
the tutorial.
KYVL Group will be writing content. www.cricketmag.com is the type of site
that they are looking for.
Go out and look for good academic tours. Colorado State has an interesting
tutorial. Bare Bones is another one. Anna Marie was looking at one university
that has good content, more on the critical thinking skills.
Should we have an info lit conference. Institute for Information Literacy, and links public, k-12. Don't know how much k-12 and public libraries are thinking in terms of information literacy. We need to find out what resources the public & k-12 need.
Greater Cincinnati had a meeting between academic librarians and school librarians.
KLA panel, with academics and school librarians, talking about what k-12 can do, and if academics can help. Are they using KYVL and how?
Building on the web tutorial - (800) number - do refrigerator magnets worked really well. Mousepads, magnets, for URL. Bookmark SERIES - one on boolean, one on evaluation, etc.
Statewide events - state fair, kentucky derby, state-wide KET programming (Carolyn Tassie). 30 or 60 minute spot.
Create a screensaver - shareware program called Axialis (Haiwang called Ask Jeeves). Can have educational content.
U of L just did a library video. EKU just did a video about a specific project.
Marketing plan for tutorial
Mousepad or magnet are good
Statewide events (fair, berea arts fair, derby, etc.)
Press release: campus or local newspapers
KYVU has publicity people
Liasion for KLA - past chair and incoming chair are here on this committee
Tie into the event. How to research horses at the Derby.
Educating librarians is key. Do lots of training sessions. Public librarians are required to take CE.
Response from Paula
Continued brainstorming on training issues.
Invite Tanzie to next meeting
