Information Literacy Work GroupMinutes

July 6, 2001
Frankfort

Attending: Susan Brown, Anna Marie, Tom, Steve, Susan H., Louann Hardy, Tanzi, Jill, Janet (remotely)

Handout: quiz statistics
Handout: RFP (most people had printout of consultants report (Paula's report on the general tutorial))

Introduction of Tanzi - point person for training librarians

Conversion to Prometheus (from Eduprise/Collegis) is coming soon. Have contracted with Eduprise to transfer to Prometheus

Discussion of the current work being done by consultant.

Is there too much on citing? It is general, and since the tutorial will be random-access, and the people will not need to read through all of it if they don't want, it's okay.
Web basics - how to use "back" and "home" buttons seems to be missing - is it still needed?
Controlled vocabulary is missing
Subject on pg 4 is ambiguous

Discussion about Paula's document (notes do not include the few typos, etc., that were addressed.)
- need for unifying theme for examples? Not necessarily. Let Paula come up with these.
-Choice of example: do we want to stick with gun control or not?
- Anyone have ideas on how to beta test?

Discussion of new RFP to rework the current curicular tutorial.

I. Instructional Designer should be 'title'
II. Yes, summarize the document. KYVL will try to summarize first, then send e-mail to check (see Paula's report 9/15/00)
III. Lots of discussion about qualifications.

Definition of an "instructional designer" would be helpful. The instructional designer will be working on a new, more curricular, more undergraduate education tutorial. Susan got some small changes in the RFP for that second tutorial. Majority of the meeting spent editing the consultants report. The structure of the document is good, there are a few wording and transition issues Paula was not completely done at this time

We don't necessarily expect the person to travel.
Also discussed was the timetable. There should be a month between sending out the RFP and the date the proposals are due. (Maybe this should even be six weeks.)
The proposal should (?) be sent out via BI-Listserv and WEB4LIB listserv.

For the next meeting, review Paula's report - so we want everything in the report to be done?
