Meeting Minutes

February 18, 2004 (re-scheduled Jan. 30 meeting)

Conference room B

1-3pm

Present: Sonja, Louann, Kevin, Anna Marie, Haiwang, Susan, Enid, Mike

Absent: Tom and Tanzi

Announcement: Jill Buckland will be replaced by Martha Birchfield (Lexington Community College) on this work group.

Discussion of survey of KYVL instructors.  The group brainstormed questions that we wanted to ask the instructors on the survey.  Questions ranged from information about the students to information about the tutorial.  Anna Marie will send out a separate rough draft of the questions.  Since this relates mostly to the academic institutions, Anna Marie asked Louann to think about what she’d like to ask her users at the public library and write up some possible questions for them that could be used in conjunction with some ADA focus groups that KYVL is conducting.

Tutorial updates: Please send Tanzi your updates.  Also, it would be helpful to her if you actually tell her what to change rather than just making suggestions.  If you are unsure of the changes you are proposing, send a note to the group and ask for our feedback (and give us a deadline!).

Survey of library instruction/ information literacy efforts in Kentucky.  Enid proposed that we also do a survey of what kinds of info lit efforts are being undertaken at the various schools/colleges.  Anna Marie and Susan recalled that KLA-LIRT had completed such a survey a number of years ago (at least 10) and that it might be good to see if they wanted to co-sponsor.  Enid will coordinate with Suzanne Gehring, chair of LIRT, and Stacey Nickell, chair of the KYVL Outreach Work Group.

Enid gave us a “tour” of the Angel course software.  She will set up a virtual “space” for us where we can share documents, have virtual meetings, etc.

Conference call with Embanet’s Nawed Shaikh who is the project manager for instructional design.  He gave us some more information about Angel (it is very similar to Blackboard and WebCT and is compatible with both).  He looked at our tutorial and gave us a timeline for Embanet to put it into Angel (about 1-2 mos. from when we give them the go-ahead).  He asked us why we wanted it in Angel and we said easy and seamless access for instructors/students, and ability for instructors to use “pieces” of it, also the ability to get better statistics.
