- Review
and approval of the November 20, 2003 minutes.
- Stacey spoke with the chair of KLA’s LIRT about the pre-conference.
Patricia Brevick will be the featured speaker. Marcia stated that we
should host a poster or mini session at the KLA fall conference to promote
KYVL and include the PSA videos.
- Marcia
reported that the LIRT educational clearinghouse, hosted by the University
of Louisville, is probably defunct. There have been no new additions since
2000. Some paper guides are still available on the site. It was
recommended that LIRT be contacted about starting the clearinghouse up
again.
- Stacey
examined the LOEX (Library Orientation Exchange) Web site for materials
that could be adapted for KYVL.
- Enid
spoke to Judith Gibbons about the proposed survey of public library Web
sites. The regional librarians are not able to participate in the survey
but she suggested that we contact public libraries through the public
library director listserv. It was noted that not all public library
directors are members of the listserv.
- It was
suggested that a session/survey presentation on KYVL be offered at the
KLA/PLS conference May 5-7, 2004, in Lexington. The PSA videos could be
looped together and presented on a television as part of the session. Session
should also include information on how to link the ads and include a media
release for libraries to use.
- Stacey
mentioned that the MCNET regional conference will be held in Paducah on
May 13, 2004, and may also be an opportunity to make a presentation.
- Tanzi is the source for KYVL training
and materials.
- Winn
gives instructional sessions incorporating resources available on KYVL and
will bring samples of the material she uses at the next meeting.
- Review
of ALA’s LIRT (Library Instruction Round Table) Web site by committee
members did not provide information that may be useful for promoting KYVL.
Enid examined the Adult Learners Sub-Committee which basically provided a
webliography of material. Marcia focused on the Continuing Education
Committee but found very little information that the group could use.
Cindy, Allen and Debbie reached similar conclusions from their committee
investigations. Allen noted that the Research Committee did have a good
bibliography. Stacey looked at the Transitions to College Committee but
did not find any handouts. She emailed the chairperson but had not
received a response by the time of our meeting.
- Allen
noted that the Kentucky chapter of the AARP would be a useful partner in
promoting KYVL. He suggested that the workgroup look into adding a
hyperlink and information to their website and advertising the service in
their newsletter.
- Enid
discussed the need to find out what is going on in libraries in their use
of KYVL. It is also necessary to determine if the information on library
Web sites is correct.
- The
workgroup will survey public library web sites and discuss the results at
the February 13th meeting. The survey is to assess whether or
not a link to KYVL is provided on the Web site and if the KYVL information
is correct. A form is attached to the minutes. The regional districts can

· Suggestion
that a Swap and Shop session be offered at KLA in the fall to invite all
libraries to bring materials that they use of KYVL training as well as ensure
that libraries know what KYVL materials are available to them.
· Enid
mentioned that it would be an interesting idea to try and match student
technology leadership programs throughout the state with public libraries who
do not currently have Web sites. The STLP coordinator for the state is Elaine
Harrison at KDE and Enid will speak to her.
· Enid
reviewed the contest entries. Presentation of the awards will be made at the
Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference in Louisville on March 5. Fifteen
minutes have been allotted for the award ceremony for KYVL. A plaque will be
given to the best PSA in each school level: elementary, middle, and high
school. Each participant will receive a certificate. The plaque should contain
the name of the Media Instructor, Students, School, and Principal. Enid will
speak to the marketing department about creating a attractive name for the
award to go on the plaque.
· There
was a discussion of a possible conflict of interest with any of the workgroup
committee members judging the participating schools. Committee members will be
excused from judging entries at the corresponding school level if a conflict of
interest is determined by the workgoup.
· Enid
will email the workgroup regarding lunch options for the February 13th
meeting.
· Meeting
was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
