TRAINING
Miko Patti. Training account meeting with U of L - any additions needed?
Don't' know the bottom line - will know Monday. The ECWG had agreed to collectively
pay for Dave Block and Keith Stevenson to go to VUGM for
training. We would divide the cost on the same basis as the maintenance for
the Test server. KYVL we will send out the formula to the listserv and send
the bills by next Monday. Will bring year end money into training account.
LIBRARY OF CONGRESS Z39.50 GATEWAY.
Miko urges that group members register their catalogs in the Library of Congress
gateway, or update their information if they have registered
previously. Either register with the Library of Congress directly at http://www.loc.gov/z3950/
or send the following information to Beth Kraemer:
1) Internet address for your catalog
2) Port number for you z39.50 connection
3) Database name
4) Vendor
Will be listed in the Library of Congress z39.50 web site.
2001 VOYAGER UPDATE:
Linda Voyles 2001.1 has been in beta since November at two sites, and now in
seven early release sites. From now on EISI will focus testing on workflows
in specific modules. General release in April - depending on AIX porting and
move toward May. Earlier ports to AIX. 2001.2 planned for general release in
Summer 2002. Release notes available for both versions. What do you want for
KVUG training? Demo for 2001.1? Focused training? Overview of features? More
regional training? Send requests to Perry Bratcher or Linda Voyles. Standard
charge for training is $1500 could be per day or $1200 for KYVL.
Upgrades of databases. Does anyone want to go to beta alone or do we all want to hang together? S.L.A. says we must all be together on the same version of Voyager. Kieth Stevenson indicated if anyone wants to go beta he will support with prospect of all upgrading at once, but is a decision of all the libraries, not the system programmer. We will pick date after general release of Solaris, maybe by next meeting. We agree that all should remain on the same version, and all upgrade together - all for one, and one for all.
WEB LOGS
Keith - web server logs. Free program is available. Can keep a years worth of data, but change took 22 hours to process 2 months and 5 days worth of data, so will need to run nightly. Weiling is using the "ANALOG" software for compiling statistical web data.
DATA DICTIONARY
Ilona Burdette has produced a reverse Data Dictionary for the Voyager database. We will investigate putting it on the KYVL website or possibly on Endeavor's Support Web. It's been long in coming, and thanks to Ilona for putting this together.
PROBLEMS
Problems on Westlib. EISI and Keith have tuned Oracle and the Web server, but no sustainable improvement has resulted. They will investigate replicating database on the test server and testing it their. KCTCS has had the worst experience -- afternoons tend to be the worst. The problem seemed to disappear for two weeks, but then rematerialized. Miko asks that Endeavor escalate the severity of the problem.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Tari will send out the suggested revised troubleshooting sheet to the list, and would like input on it. You can fill in your own library information. Keith suggest that when tenants of Westlib have a severe problem that when calling in they please insist on talking to the UNIX team or tell them to "page the UNIX team now." Gary Flanagan has kept a log of Voyager problems and graphs the monthly frequency of problem reports; others might do the same to provide more complete data and a better picture of the problems
VOTE
Within the KYVL Endeavor Consortium Working Group each institution will have 2 votes for people on the VUGM board. ECWG will caste its 2 votes for the winner of our ... primary.
ANNOUCEMENTS
Paul Fuller announces Michael Stapleton, from U.T. Arlington, has joined him at KCTCS.
