ENDEAVOR UPDATE
Linda Voyles. Release Schedule is as follows: AIX 2001.1 began beta-testing in mid-July and will wrap-up in about 3 weeks. There will then be several weeks of Early Release and general release Gold should occur in mid-October. This release will include the Solaris Patch which fixed the font and other problems. The two AIX bugs - problems with bulk import of large files, and catjob URL checking - will be fixed in this release. Solaris 2001.2 began beta-test in mid-August-this release has the circulation clusters, and should go early-release by early December and gold by mid-December.
Beta for AIX 2001.2 should begin immediately after Solaris goes gold. Along with circulation clusters the Systems Administrations module has been re-written and Web-X is available, more security features, OpenURL entry in a bib record, and bulk import features (bi-directional merge, etc.). Release notes can be found on http://support.endinfosys.com.
Unicode release will come after that.
Encompass and LinkFinderPlus 3.0 will go into beta-test sometime this Fall.
Kieth's 3 questions:
When will the AIX preview software be available? AIX preview software should be available by the end of September.
Keith mentioned backup software in Westlaw is having trouble backing up the elder versions of AIX 4.33 and Oracle. Herman Collins added that Eastlib may soon have the same problem with their upcoming update. Linda would ask Endeavor about when the OS and DB updates might occur. Keith added that IBM might soon stop distribution of AIX 4.33.
Any news on the run-away Z39.50 processes - now that the semester has started they have become a problem once again. Linda knows that two sites have tested a patch, but the reviews have been mixed.
UPGRADE DATE
The group has decided to put off any update until next Summer. If Voyager releases go well then we may skip a release.
Westlib will upgrade/replace the server by the end of the year. Keith said that the swap should not take more than a week-end to perform.
SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENT
Part III, A, 4 will be removed.
Signature lines for library directors and hub site IT department managers will
be added.
Part III, B, 2 will be explained by adding a separate schedule to explain the
formula for each institution and show their costs.
With these changes the group will approve the agreement.
WEB VOYAGE TIMEOUT
Faculty at NKU want to increase the 10 minute time-out, but Perry wanted to check with the group and the hub administrators before increasing beyond this. Linda pointed out an FAQ concerning Web Voyage timeout settings, and Endeavor does not recommend going beyond 600 seconds.
ACCESSING LOCAL TRAINING NEEDS
Tyler Goldberg, as Chair of the Kentucky Voyager Users' Group suggested ECWG and KVUG cooperation in organizing instate training for Voyager Users. The proposal was to compile names of Kentucky Voyager users who are proficient in areas of Voyager who would potentially be willing to hold training sessions around the state. Evaluations from the last KVUG meeting indicated there was considerable interest within the state for this kind of cooperative training. Volunteers for any aspect of this project are welcome.
Next meeting will be December 5, 2002
