LCC Update
Michael Stapleton reported that as of May 12 the production load at LCC was completed. Problems have been identified. As of June 2 the profile had been corrected. The circulation, acquisitions, and cataloging modules are now up and running. The transition went smoothly, in part thanks to Tari Keller’s assistance.
Upgrade Planning
Unicode conversion testing for EastLib went smoothly for all
but three sites:
Discussion next turned to the planned software upgrade. The consortium is in agreement that we should upgrade first to Unicode. The Voyager 5.0 upgrade and the AIX upgrade, scheduled for August, are a bit of a sticky wicket due to the uncertainty surrounding the release date of the software. Endeavor has promised to give us access to the Early Release issues information on Support Web. They would be adding us to a group that would see the Early Release tab in Knowledge Base. We will be under the same confidentiality rules as real Early Release partners. The group agreed that we would make our decision about going Early Release Version 5 by Friday, July 29. If Version 5 is in General Release by that date, we will update to Version 5 without needing to vote unless there is a major open issue that will cause problems for all libraries.
Endeavor isn’t likely to bring out the release if the last part of the last sentence is true. They asked the testing institutions to prioritize open issues according to what they thought the entire Voyager user community would consider most important, not what their institutions felt was most important. Endeavor remains on schedule to bring out the release in mid-July, with Solaris coming out around the second week, and AIX coming out the third week.
