This is an alphabetic list of all the databases available through KYVL.

Academic Search Premier -- EBSCO
Academic Search Premier contains indexing for 8,176 publications, with full text for nearly 4,700 of those titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.

AGRICOLA -- U.S. National Agricultural Library
AGRICOLA contains bibliographic records from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library. Coverage for AGRICOLA dates back to 1970 and includes more than 2.5 million citations. The citations are comprised of journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audiovisual materials, and technical reports related to agriculture.

Alt-Press Watch -- ProQuest
Alt-PressWatch is a full text database comprised of the newspapers, magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press. Alternative newsweeklies, available in most cities, give readers alternative perspectives on politics, government, policy and culture; report on issues of government and education, local, national and international issues; and cover topics such as hunger, abuse, the environment, religion and the arts, including reviews of theater, movies, books, local attractions, etc. The magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press provide in-depth coverage of a broad range of critical issues confronting contemporary society, including ecology and the environment, grassroots organizing, labor, indigenous peoples, public policy, genetics, and much more.

Amazing Animals of the World -- Grolier
Amazing Animals is a database containing reference and media materials on 1200 animals for grades 2 and above.

ArticleFirst® Database -- OCLC
This database contains bibliographic citations that describe items listed on the table of contents pages of journals in the areas of science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture.

Biography Reference Bank -- H. W. Wilson Company
Biography Reference Bank contains biographical information on a large number of individuals from antiquity to the present. Biographies represent all fields and nationalities.

Business Source Premier -- EBSCO
Business Source® Premier offers indexing and abstracts for the 350 most important scholarly business journals back to 1965 or the first published issue. This database includes searchable cited references for 1,205 journals. Business Source Premier covers full text journals in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance, econometrics and economics.

Career & Technical Education -- ProQuest
Designed for both students and instructors, ProQuest Career and Technical Education is an excellent source of vocational information for community colleges, two-year institutions, public libraries, and high schools offering technical courses. Overall, the database covers more than 400 publications, and ASCII full-text articles-some dating back to 1991-are available from more than 380 of them. Articles in the full-image and/or Text+Graphics formats are available from more than 340 sources, many with coverage dating from 1996. The image article formats include all the charts, diagrams, graphs, tables, photos, and other graphics originally published with the text.

CINAHL -- CINAHL Information Systems
CINAHL® provides indexing for over 1,700 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. The database contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1982. Offering complete coverage of English-language nursing journals and publications from the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses' Association, CINAHL covers nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health and 17 allied health disciplines. In addition, this database offers access to health care books, nursing dissertations, selected conference proceedings, standards of practice, educational software, audiovisuals and book chapters. Full text material includes 60 journals plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials.

Clase and Periodica - OCLC
Clase and Periodica indexes documents published in Latin American journals specializing in social sciences, humanities, science, and technology. The database offers access to more than 400,000 bibliographic citations from documents published in 2,600 scholarly journals published in Spanish, Portuguese, French and English. The database contains information from articles, essays, book reviews, monographs, conference proceedings, technical reports, interviews, and brief notes published in journals edited in 24 different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as from publications that focus on Pan-American issues.

ProQuest Computing is an excellent resource for students, instructors, IT professionals, and consumers who need information on virtually any computing topic, including software, hardware, e-commerce, Web site development, intranets and extranets, systems design, databases, and technology management. The database also contains thousands of product reviews. Coverage includes Computerworld, InfoWorld, Computer Reseller News, PC World, and more than 250 other leading computing journals. Full image and/or our unique Text+Graphics articles are available for nearly 190 publications, some with image coverage dating from 1988.

EBSCO Animals -- EBSCO
Search this encyclopedia of animals for information on all sorts of animals including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and dinosaurs. Each entry begins with a simple category breakdown of the animal including Kingdom, Class, Order, Genus & Species, and Geographical Locale as well as a detailed description. Many entries include colorful images. Geared toward K-12 students but helpful for anyone looking for this sort of information. This database is also included in Primary Search Online.

OCLC Electronic Collections Online -- OCLC
Electronic Collections Online is a growing collection of journals in a variety of subject areas. It includes all of the original content and images of articles, and includes bibliographic information for all journals.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations -- University of Kentucky
UK-ETD provides worldwide access to electronic theses and dissertations prepared and submitted by University of Kentucky graduate and doctoral students. Covers theses and dissertations from 2000 to the present (*NOTE: Not all theses and dissertations published by University of Kentucky students are available through UK-ETD. The database contains only those theses and dissertations published as electronic documents.)

Encyclopedia Americana -- Grolier
Encyclopedia Americana provides online access to this popular resource from Grolier, a standard in school, public, and academic libraries.

ERIC -- U.S. Department of Education
The ERIC database is a guide to published and unpublished sources on thousands of educational topics. Contains annotated references to non-journal material issued in the monthly Resources in Education (RIE) and to journal articles issued in the monthly Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE).

ERIC -- U.S. Department of Education
ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center, provides access to education literature and resources. The database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. ERIC provides full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.

Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia -- EBSCO
For students and adults alike, the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia database indexes over 25,000 records, covering an array of topics. The database contains various images, offers brief biographies as well as information in a variety of subject areas. This database is updated annually. Includes all information available in the print version of the Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia.

GPO Monthly Catalog -- U.S. Government Printing Office
GPO Monthly Catalog covers all types of U.S. government documents, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments (Defense, State, Labor, Office of the President, etc.) .

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia -- Grolier
A popular Grolier resource, the Academic American Encyclopedia, has been made available online as the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia.

Health Source: Consumer Edition -- EBSCO
Health Source: Consumer Edition offers a resource for finding authoritative information on health-related questions specifically geared to the general public.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition -- EBSCO
Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition provides more than 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. In addition, this database includes the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide database, providing access to up-to-date, concise and clinically relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new drugs.

International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text -- ProQuest
International Index to Music Periodicals is an excellent resource for anyone who needs information on virtually any style or genre of music. It combines the ability to search the thesaurus--controlled indexing of the International Index to Music Periodicals with in-depth, full-text searching. It instantly delivers complete articles, including mages, from many important music journals.

Kentuckiana Digital Library
Search here for unique historical materials specific to Kentucky. Resources include archival finding aids, photographs, sound recordings, diaries, letters and more. Materials included in the Kentuckiana Digital Library are held by special collections and archives departments in libraries throughout Kentucky.

Kentucky Adult Education Resources -- Kentucky Virtual Adult Education, Kentucky Virtual Library
This database consists of online resources to support adult educators in Kentucky. The resources were selected by adult educators and include Web sites, curriculum guides, and recommended reading, lesson plans, and more.

Lexi-PAL Drug Guide -- EBSCO
Effective June 15, 2007, the Clinical Pharmacology drug content in these products will be replaced by Lexi-PALS drug content. EBSCO will automatically upgrade all customers who currently access Clinical Pharmacology content in its Health Source: Consumer Edition, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition and Consumer Health Complete databases, to the new Lexi-PALS content. EBSCO Publishing has partnered with Lexi-Comp, providers of the Lexi-PALS Patient Advisory information, which covers over 1,000 generic medications, 100 natural products and 19 vaccines.

LINCS -- National Institute for Literacy
LINCS is a national database of Internet resources designed for use by adult educators and specialists in family literacy.

Literary Reference Center -- EBSCO
Literary Reference Center is a comprehensive database that provides a broad spectrum of information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and timeframes. LRC combines information from major respected reference works, books, literary journals as well as original content from EBSCO Publishing and includes full text of selected poems and short stories and full text of a number of literary encyclopedia and guides.

MAS (Magazine Article Summaries) Ultra: School Edition -- EBSCO
MAS Ultra - School Edition, designed specifically for high school libraries. Every full text article is assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).

MasterFILE Premier -- EBSCO
This comprehensive, general periodical database provides access to information on a broad range of topics including general interest, business, consumer health, general science and multicultural titles. This database also contains full text for 433 reference books, 84,074 biographies, 86,135 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps & flags. Designed specifically for the public library.

MEDLINE -- U.S. National Library of Medicine
MEDLINE® provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree numbers, tree hierarchy and explosion capabilities to search abstracts from over 4,800 current biomedical journals. Included are citations from Index Medicus, International Nursing Index, Index to Dental Literature, HISTLINE, SPACELINE, PREMEDLINE, AIDSLINE, BIOETHICSLINE, and HealthSTAR.

MEDLINE -- U.S. National Library of Medicine
This specialized database covers all areas of medicine, including clinical medicine, experimental medicine, dentistry, nursing, health services administration, nutrition, and much more. It corresponds to the print indexes Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing Index.

Middle Search Plus Online -- EBSCO
This database is designed to assist middle and junior high school students in learning how to research current events. It contains full text for nearly 150 popular, middle school magazines. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies, historical essays and student pamphlets. This database can be accessed via Searchasaurus, EBSCO's search experience for elementary-to-middle school-age users.

Military & Government Collection -- EBSCO
Provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals. Some publications covered in this database include Air Force Comptroller, Army Reserve Magazine, Defence Studies, Global Security Review, JFQ: Joint Force Quarterly, Military Technology, National Review, Combat Edge, FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, Foreign Affairs, Naval Forces, and many more. This database provides selected full text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers, including USA Today, The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, The Times (London), The Toronto Star, etc. The database also contains selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers, including The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Detroit Free Press, The Miami Herald, The New York Daily News, The San Jose Mercury News, etc. In addition, full text television & radio news transcripts are provided from CBS News, FOX News, NPR, etc. Also includes local business news coverage of The Lexington Herald-Leader, Messenger-Inquirer (Owensboro, KY), and the Paducah Sun.

This database provides access to individual papers presented at conferences worldwide. It is a major research aid covering every congress, symposium, exposition, workshop, and meeting added to The British Library Document Supply Centre's (BLDC) vast proceedings collection. The BDLC is a document supplier for the OCLC Interlibrary Loan service. The FirstSearch/OCLC ILL link is the best way to obtain conference papers cited in PapersFirst.

Primary Search Online -- EBSCO
Designed for elementary schools and children's reading rooms. Primary Search Online covers a wide range of general interest topics. It includes EBSCO Animals, Funk and Wagnall's Encyclopedia, World Almanac, and World Almanac for Kids. Designed to support elementary schools and children's reading rooms. This database is a collection of electronic information especially for professional educators. This collection offers information on everything from children's health and development to cutting-edge pedagogical theory and practice.

Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection -- EBSCO
The Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection covers information concerning topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods. Can be searched independently, but also allows users to link to the full text from citations located in PsycINFO.

PsycINFO -- American Psychological Association
PsycINFO contains more than two million references to psychological literature ranging in date from 1887 to the present. It provides access to a collection of electronically stored bibliographic references--most with abstracts or content summaries. Although the references themselves are all written in English, the covered literature includes material published in over 45 countries and written in more than 35 languages.

Regional Business News -- EBSCO
This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated on a daily basis.

Religion & Philosophy Collection -- EBSCO
The Religion & Philosophy Collection is a comprehensive database covering such topics as world religions, major denominations, biblical studies, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy.

Sociological Collection -- EBSCO
The Sociological Collection is a comprehensive database covering information in all areas of sociology, including social behavior, human tendencies, interaction, relationships, community development, culture and social structure.

TOPICsearch -- EBSCO
TOPICsearch is a current events database that allows the user to explore social, political, and economic issues and other popular topics discussed in classrooms, including controversial opinions and viewpoints.

Union List of Periodicals Database -- OCLC
The Union List of Periodicals Database has always been a subset of the OCLC WorldCat database. To access this information, you must now search directly in WorldCat. In the WorldCat database, choose "Advanced Search." In the "Limit type" area, check the box next to "Serial Publications" and then perform your search.

World Almanac -- Primedia Reference, Inc.
World Almanac offers a fundamental reference source for students, library patrons, library reference staff, and scholars alike; includes biographies, encyclopedia entries, facts, statistics.

WorldCat Database (the OCLC Online Union Catalog) -- OCLC
WorldCat contains all the records cataloged by OCLC member libraries. It is the world's most comprehensive bibliography. WorldCat covers information on materials created earlier than 1000 B.C. It contains records from more than 50,000 libraries all over the world.

Kentucky Library Catalogs -- Kentucky Libraries
A library catalog is a record of all the items (books, journal titles, and more) that a library owns or provides access to. A catalog gives you brief information about the item and information about how you can locate that item in the library. If you see something that you would like in a catalog, talk with your local librarian about how you can get it. If you library does not already own it, it can often be delivered to your library in a matter of days.
