This section provides general poetry resources, including biographical information and links to sites containing full-text poems.
- The Academy of American Poets
- As the largest organization in the U.S. devoted to poetry, the Academy provides publicity for National Poetry Month, sponsors many American poetry awards, and organizes the American Poet Stamp Project. The site offers information about the Academy's activities, contains short biographies and photos of more than 400 American poets, and includes nearly 1,000 full-text poems which are keyword-searchable. The site also offers a Listening Booth which allows users to listen to poetry readings in RealAudio format.
- American Verse Project
- Part of the University of Michigan Humanities Text Initiative, the project is an electronic archive of American poetry published prior to 1920. Poems are full-text searchable using a single word, proximity or Boolean searching. The site contains a bibliography that provides links to many pre-1920 American poems posted at other websites. The site also contains a humorous poetry randomizer which will create new poems out of the existing poems on the website.
- Atlantic Monthly Poetry Page
- The Atlantic Monthly Magazine's poetry page is filled with monthly articles and features about poets and poems. Each month offers poems by both new and well-known poets in text and audio format. (RealAudio format) The site offers a searchable archive of the Atlantic Monthly online magazine, including the Poetry page.
- Modern American Poetry
- While this is a companion website to the Anthology of Modern American Poetry, it does stand on its own as a valuable poetry resource. The site features over 100 contemporary American poets. Author entries include biographical informaiton, interviews, photographs, literary criticism, bibliographies, and links to full-text poems.
- Poetry Daily
- Poetry Daily provides a new, full contemporary poem each day. Also included is an archive of previously posted poems. Poets included are both new and well-known, including poets such as Anne Waldman, Li Young Lee, and Louise Gluck.
- Sonnet Central
- Sonnet Central is an archive of sonnets in English. The sonnets are grouped by period and can also be browsed alphabetically by author. Also included are tips on writing sonnets and some information about sonnet criticism.
