How to Use KYVL - tutorial

Finding Books and Articles: What is a Database?

In this case we use the word database to refer to the more than 32 indexes to which you have access through KYVL. Databases generally give you access to the articles within magazines and journals. Some are more specialized like Grolier's Encyclopedia Americana, which is a searchable encyclopedia. These databases provide you with records containing brief bibliographic information (the author, title, journal, date published). Some records also give you an abstract, which is a brief description of the article. Some provide you with a link to the full text of the article. Not all records have a link to the full text. Through these databases, you have access to over 5000 full text journals.
