    Allen County (Indiana) Public Library
    This Indiana library has the 2nd largest genealogy collection in the United States. They also have a subject index (PERSI) to over 10,000 local genealogical and historical periodical articles dating as far back as 1800.
    Ancestry.com
    This site provides some free databases and many subscription-based databases. It also provides research tools, online bookstore and links to other sites.
    Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System
    This National Park Service site provides the most complete information on individual soldiers, sailors, individual regiments, battles, prisoners of war, and cemeteries.
    Cyndi's List
    Cyndi's List is a categorized and cross-referenced index to genealogical resources on the Internet. It is a great starting place for anyone doing genealogical research.
    DAR Genealogical Research Library
    This site provides information about the services and resources available from the Daughters of the American Revolution's Genealogical Research Library.
    Ellis Island On-Line
    Use this site to find information about passenger records of over 22 million immigrants who entered the United States between 1892 and 1924.
    Everton's Genealogical Helper
    This site includes many online genealogy classes. It provides free charts and has over 40 databases, some free but many are subscription-based databases. It also has a search engine that searches over 60,000 links.
    FamilySearch
    FamilySearch provides access to the extensive genealogical resources gathered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The database may be searched by Ancestor search, Custom Search or Keyword search. There is also a link to the Family History Library Catalog. This is a superior site in which to begin researching your family history.

    This site provides how-to articles, product reviews, online genealogy products store and a directory of thousands of web sites.

    This site includes how-to guides, links to genealogy newsgroups, mailing lists, online maps and national and international resources.
    Genealogy Toolbox
    This site includes a directory to over 70,000 genealogy links, simultaneous search of 8 genealogy search engines, software evaluations, queries and much more.
    Genforum
    This site provides access to thousands of genealogical surname and regional bulletin boards.
    GENUKI
    This is a comprehensive collection of websites related to British and Irish genealogy research.

    This site offers almost 3 million cemetery records from over 5000 cemeteries around the world.
    Library of Congress' Local History and Genealogy Reading Room
    The Local History & Genealogy Reading Room provides one of the world's premier collections of U.S. and foreign genealogical and local historical publications. This site provides information about the Reading Room's services and resources.
    Library of Virginia
    The Library of Virginia provides digital access to more than 2.2 million original documents, photographs, and maps, and has more than 80 fully-searchable databases, indexes, and electronic finding aids. These include-

    One of the largest genealogical and local history collections open to the public, this site provides a selective list of resources and services available to family historians from the New York Public Library.
    Official Land Patent Records
    This website from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management gives you database access to images of federal land grants issued between 1820 - 1908.
    Pennsylvania Digital Archives
    This site provides over 200,000 digitized records from the Pennsylvania State Archives including Revolutionary War Military Abstract Card File, World War I Service Medal Application Cards, and Spanish American War Veterans' Card File.
    Roots Web
    RootsWeb includes a number of search engines and databases, access to the GenConnect bulletin boards for posting messages by surname, region, and topic, mailing lists and list archives.
    Social Security Death Index
    Use this site to do an interactive search of the U.S. Social Security Death Index.
    Topozone
    This site contains every USGS 1:100,000, 1:63,360, 1:25,000, and 1:24,000 scale topographic map for the entire United States. It can also be searched by place name and state.

    U.S. Gazetteer
    Use this site, from the U.S. Census Bureau, to search for a place name in the United States.
    U.S. Surname Distribution
    Enter a surname to get a map of the United States showing the distribution of people with this surname within the 50 United States. This map is often helpful when trying to determine a starting point for genealogy projects. The source of this data is the 1850 Census, 1880 Census, 1920 Census, and 1990's phone books.
    USGenWeb Project
    This site is the result of a volunteer effort to provide county and genealogy project resources for all states.

    Filson Club Historical Society
    The Filson Club has the distinction of being the oldest historical society in the state of Kentucky. This is their official website.
    Guide to Genealogical Research on Kentucky Ancestors in the Civil War
    This listing of books and articles may be useful in doing genealogical research on men who served in Kentucky military units, both Union and Confederate, during the Civil War. Only those works which contain listings of individual men's names are included. It was prepared by Don Rightmyer, Reference Librarian at Boyle County Public Library, Danville, Kentucky.

    The gazetteer can be searched by place name or feature or select a county to get information or to see relief maps or physiographic maps.
    Kentucky Counties

    Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA)
    KDLA is the central repository for Kentucky public records. Search their catalog. Read their Overview of Military Records and Researching Your Civil War Ancestors. Get information about the other types of records available, forms, research room hours, etc. from their main website at http://kdla.ky.gov.
    Kentucky Genealogical Society
    The Society promotes genealogical research in Kentucky and preservation of Kentucky records through its programs, publications, and projects.
    Kentucky Highway Maps
    These maps were produced by the Kentucky Department of Highways and are dated from 1992 through 1999.
    Kentucky Historical Society
    The Kentucky Historical Society's research library collects family histories, county and state histories, cemetery records, county court records and a treasure trove of other valuable genealogical research material.     Kentucky Maps
    These maps come from the University of Texas-Austin Map Collection. Included are state, city and historical maps plus maps of some national parks, monuments and historic sites located in Kentucky.
    Kentucky Place Names
    This is a searchable gazetteer of Kentucky towns, landmarks, churches, cemeteries, etc. sponsored by the Kentucky Geological Survey.

    KyGenWeb is a volunteer effort to provide information on the History of Kentucky, Kentucky counties, genealogical records and projects and other vital records. KyGenWeb is a great place to start Kentucky-based genealogical research.
    Local History Index
    This database, from the Lexington Public Library, is a selective index to newspaper articles dating from 1787 to the present and pertaining to significant people, places, events, churches, businesses and organizations in Lexington and Fayette County.
    Office of Vital Statistics
    Order certified copies of birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates here. This office has maintained birth and death records since 1911 and marriage and divorce records since 1958.
    Revolutionary War Warrants
    Did your ancestor receive a Kentucky land warrant for Revolutionary War service? Find out here by searching this database provided by the Kentucky Land Office. View a digitized image of the actual warrant.
