• This means get a general idea of the page before you begin to read and take notes.
• HOW TO SCAN OR SURVEY A PAGE BEFORE YOU READ
• Read the title and look at the pictures.
• Read the captions under the pictures.
• Read the first and last paragraphs on the page.
• Look for the main idea of each section.
• When you come to words you don't understand, write them down so you can look them up in a dictionary.
