KYVL tries to provide live, online training on both the KYVL website and our research databases several times a year. This training is free to all KYVL members. All scheduled training sessions will be posted on this page and an announcement will be sent to the KYVL-News listserv.

EBSCO Student Interfaces: Curriculum Integration

EBSCO student interfaces are helpful resources for use in the library and from home!  This workshop will demonstrate the features of the studentinterfaceswith curriculum integration. Also included are materials for teachers in the Professional Development Collection and Academic Search Complete.  Each session includes free resources from the EBSCO Customer Support Site including scavenger hunts, best practices and tutorials. Questions will be welcomed throughout the session!

Readers’ Advisory and Teaching with Books in NoveList

In this session we’ll explore NoveList for Readers’ Advisory for children through teenage groups. NoveList for Readers’ Advisory helps match the students’ interests and tasks with fictional titles that can be searched by Lexile reading levels. Also, in this workshop learn how to quickly find series in reading order, Read-a-Likes and ‘If you Likes’, along with much more.

Academic Search Complete and Agricola and the Features and Functionality of EBSCOhost

This workshop emphasizes searching in EBSCOhost using KYVL’s new Academic Search Complete database along with Agricola which focuses on agriculture and food science. The features and functionality of the EBSCOhost interface will be demonstrated, including applying limiters to narrow and expand your searches, setting up personal and custom folders, using journal and subject alerts, search history, note taking, and citation features.

This workshop emphasizes searching in EBSCOhost using the Psychological and Behavioral Sciences Databases, CINAHL with full text (Cumulative Index for Nursing and Allied Health Professionals), and some of the specific limiters associated with these databases. Using EBSCO Discovery Service

This workshop will demonstrate searching in Discovery to find all of your library’s content from a single search box. We will discuss how Discovery works and how to refine searches quickly to find the most relevant content throughout the library. MasterFile Premier in the EBSCOhost interface is designed specifically for public libraries reference work. This database contains full text for nearly 1,700 periodicals, 500+ reference books, a huge image collection, and much more. On-Site Training and Conference Appearences

KYVL frequently presents at library association conferences and as part of professional development programs statewide. We have also done on-site training for librarians, staff and educators at individual schools and institutions. Our availability for all on-site training is determined on a case-by-case basis depending on KYVL staff schedules and budgetary constraints.
